A binder cut the corn, the entire stem and seed head were left to dry in the field for 2-3 weeks. |
The combine harvester cuts the corn. The seed is threshed out and stored in a large tank and the straw and chaff is pushed out the back and left in the field in lines ready to be baled. |

| The threshing machine threshed out the seed which was bagged up by hand into two and a quarter weight sacks (2521b). The straw was stacked in a 'rick' and used when necessary for bedding or feed. |
The seed is taken by tractor and trailer to the West Lane grain store. |
