We've bred our own pigs in the past but the last of them, Polly and Spot left us a couple of months ago.

This week I collected four weaners from Oaklands Farm, they are all gilts and a cross between a Saddleback boar and Large Black sow hence the interesting markings which will make a good talking point  about traditional breeds and cross breeding when schools come to visit.

The piglets will live free range and  use their long snouts naturally, rooting up the ground in search of grub.  We feed them weaner pellets with all the vitamins and nutrients they need for growing, as well as fodder beet, apples and vegetables.

The pig ark is filled with fresh straw for warmth and at the moment it's as deep as they are tall. Here the piglets enjoy finding apples in the straw.

This morning they have also had some recycled breakfast cereal!
