Yesterday we were visited by 26 Plumpton College students in their 3rd year studying Level 3 Extended Diploma in Agriculture. The students are studying on the livestock or arable course and all of them also study Business in their final year.

Plumpton is the nearest college to Manor Farm that provides Level 2 and 3 Agriculture and it's most Educational for the students to visit a broad range of farming enterprises nearby.
The visit follows on from a talk given by Laurence who is a sector chairman of Red Tractor Farm and Food Standards Scheme. He gave a lecture and slide show at Plumpton College in January to Level 2 and 3 agriculture about the Red Tractor which is the UK’s leading farm and quality food assurance scheme.
During the visit to Manor Farm the students learned about the arable and beef enterprise, countryside stewardship and diversification and discussing far reaching topics from crops grown and commodity prices, to tenant farming, calf rearing and the impact of Government and global issues.

The visit took the students to a number of locations to see livestock, arable, machinery, comparing grains stores built by Laurence's father 50 odd years ago and a new grain store fit for the 21st century.
The students were keen to see some of the machinery on the farm and heard about the financing and maintenance of this equipment.

The connection with Plumpton College goes back over thirty years and Manor Farm takes students in their middle year and has employed post graduates.
Current 3rd Year Agricultural student Reece Edwards says ' I have learned so much during my year at Manor Farm and it's prepared me well for my final year at Plumpton College, which is focussed on Business Studies'
'I grew up in Surrey and have wanted to farm for as long as I can remember and having a placement at Manor Farm has meant I can live at home whilst gaining invaluable experience on a large mixed farm and be close enough to Plumpton for any lectures'
