Breaking news: Father Christmas sprinkled some fairy dust over the barn and we have a new calf !

The dam has the desired white belt around her middle for a Belted Galloway, but her bull calf is mis-marked with two white socks on his hind feet, or maybe they are Christmas stockings! (hidden in the straw here but we'll recognise him from afar as he grazes over the coming years).

We have called him Elf!

This is Pearl's first calving and she has clearly put everything she had into the growth of her calf as he is feisty and strong.

We have moved the pair into their own quarters so that we can ensure that Pearl gets all the feed she needs and not be pushed out by the bigger, bolder characters as it seems she may have been.

Pearl and Elf will still have company as they have one side of a barn to themselves and the other section has three Belties whose calves have just been weaned off.

The weaned calves are at Manor and there's the usual mooing evry time someone enters the yard, just in case we've brought their mums back!

Ling, Orchid and Dock

Dock, Ling and Orchid were born in early January and February this year so they've had a good nine months suckling milk from their mothers.
