It’s that time of year when ploughmen and women across the UK are entering this seasons ploughing matches and we are fortunate in Surrey to have Mick and Janet Hill organising the
Surrey Novice Ploughing training day, which we hosted again today.

Today’s event was attended by ten ploughmen including Christopher and with extra folk stopping by to learn or just take a look. The ploughmen have a whole variety tractor manufacturer, size and model and as the day progresses they discuss each element of competition ploughing and compare how well they have done.

The Harvest of Skyfall wheat at Park Farm began yesterday afternoon and was coming off wet, at about 5 tonne and acre.

Being 24% moisture the grain will all need to go through the dryer before it can be stored in the grain store. Once dry the tonnage will decrease.

Harvesting continued eastward today completing the next two fields at the foot of the downs and by the final field a little sunshine and breeze had helped to reduce the moisture reading to 19%.
Now south of the railway line it’s back to 20% moisture.
Every load collected will need to be dried to below 15% moisture to ensure best quality of storage and the quality of grain to sell.
