11th August 2013

This field of Gallant  wheat at Manor Farm was looking very good in the middle of June and gave hope of a good harvest.

The wildlife headland in the foreground provided food for bees and other insects.

The very hot weather in July caused the wheat to suffer before it had completed it's final growth stage and the crop turned brown instead of the golden colour of a ripened field.

The above photo was taken from the same headland this evening with a breeze blowing straw dust towards me.

Whilst a shot from the opposite direction just minutes later shows this field being completed and the beautiful evening we have had in Wotton.

Another comparison below between a small wheat field on 21st June and 11th August 2013.  This field will be harvested tomorrow.
