Wotton Lily gave birth to a heifer calf yesterday, named Spring. Here are a few Photos of the event.

Water bag appears and feet emerge

The last few contractions and the heifer calf was born; she has long legs and is certainly a good size for Lily's first calf.

As mum licks her calf clean, 'April' looks on with interest!

Before and after tagging

Another new arrival on the farm is a Red Kite which was circling overhead after 'Spring' was born.  Red Kites have a windspan of about five and a half feet and a body weight of only 2-3 lbs making them incredibly agile and able to stay airborn for many hours with just a few wingbeats.

despite an imposing presence they aren't particularly strong or aggressive and are mainly scavengers and opportunists relying on powerful birds such as Ravens and Buzzards to make a start on a lamb before attempting to feed on it themselves.

Red kites are predators of live prey from earthworths to small mammals, amphibians and birds.
