Harvest began this evening in a field of barley battered by rain and eaten by rooks and crows.

The scarecrows were removed from the field by Will, Christopher and Grandad.

The cutter bar was hitched onto the front of the combine harvester and Laurence attached the lifters which lift the crop off the ground and onto the knives.

The going wasn’t too good; with a blockage, followed by a burst pipe, but hopefully with some warm weather over the coming week we should get the barley off this field before we are forced to stop not only the harvest but all farming activities for two days and nights in order to allow two Olympic cycle races to pass through in just a matter of minutes!
