Yesterday evening saw approximately 150 farmers and their friends and helpers descend upon us for a farm tour.

The event was organised by the Redhill branch of the National Farmers Union and the number of visitors just goes to show the strength of farming community here in Surrey.

We used three of our tractors and flat bed trailers as transport with another two borrowed trailers collected en-route by two of the visiting farmers.

After an introduction to the farm and a short history from Laurence we set off in convoy to explore the valley south of Manor Farm which is dominated by the grandeur of Wotton House, previously home to John Evelyn the diarist.

The valley shown above would once have been part of the grounds designed by Evelyn who worked on notable projects with William Kent and Capability Brown.

After a transfer to Raikes Farm we took an undulating tour around our barley, linseed, hemp and fodder beat fields and although the wind was really picking up, it was a stunning evening with the sun bursting through brooding clouds.

The evening was rounded off with a BBQ prepared by the Redhill volunteers.  This helped to warm everyone up as they caught up with old friends.
