Early arrival of a 'new' tractor today (two of the Same tractors are still out of commission). It is actually six years old, a John Deere 8200 costing us £25,000 compared to a new John Deere at £90,000.
FOOT AND MOUTH
The telephones are hot once again with news of another suspected case of Foot and Mouth Disease in Egham, Surrey. Bloods have been taken from about 18 cattle (15 of which are showing suspicious clinical signs) and the results should be available this afternoon.
The cattle are being culled 'on suspision' before the test results return.
When all of John Emerson's livestock were culled on suspision, this was based on a legion seen on a pig (later proved negative to FMD) in conjunction with their location, close to John Gunner's cattle.
The Egham cattle are about 14 miles from the Institute of Animal Health and Merial site at Pirbright and the two positive culls at Normandy, so this would seem to indicate that the DEFRA vet is fairly positive of his diagnosis.
FMD has been confirmed as positive at Egham, 24 mile away from Wotton. Our bio security measures have remained in place at our farm entrance since the outbreak in Normandy, we were going to clear it all away when every one was less busy - but now it will have to stay.
