The past six days have been hectic and there’s still quite a stretch to the weekend.

I bought four Saddleback weaners on Friday, drove to Scotland to look at a bull on Saturday and drove home Sunday. The Bishop of Guildford visited the farm on Monday. I spent Tuesday at the butchers; boxing up the Beltie beef, then back home to bake cakes. By today; the beef had all been sold and collected and the cake devoured!
This afternoon we had our annual, independent on – farm inspection by CMI. Passing the inspection is critical to achieve/maintain our Farm Assurance. I’m glad to say that the farm passed the inspection and that Farm Assurance is granted for another year.
For the remainder of the week; I’m back to the butcher to cut and box more Beltie beef, followed by cake baking and beef sales, whilst Laurence is off to a cattle market to see how a lorry load of our Friesians fare at auction.
One of my new beef customers took a look at the piglets today and commented on the similar markings to the Belted Galloways. Although not the reason for choosing Saddleback pigs, there does seem to be an unconscious theme occurring here!
At the moment the plan is to keep two of the gilts for future breeding and they will provide another breed for the school visits.
