An enormous amount of livestock and field work has been underway in past weeks and this ‘summer’s' educational visits to Manor Farm have now begun with a visit by 26 children from St.Peter’s C of E School, London.  We need dry weather and a little sunshine on Tuesday when Year 3 makes their visit!

The oil seed rape is now in flower; it is designed for pollination by bees and is heavy and sticky.  Oil seed rape is responsible for much of the honey produced in lowland Britain however the honey is so strong it tends to crystallise and is therefore quite often blended.  A local bee keeper has given us ‘rape seed’ honey which tasted absolutely delicious,  and I say that as someone who grew up disliking honey!

Today is the 30th Cowpie Rally which is organised entirely by Surrey Young Farmers and volunteers with main ring attractions, livestock and side shows for all the family to enjoy. Laurence is currently President of Surrey YFC so he has popped along for the day, taking a tractor and seed drill unit to add to the display.

It is with great sadness that we learnt today of the untimely death of  Charles Gotto who farms locally and has a great passion for producing fresh local produce for his restaurant and farm shop.  We send our condolences to all his family.
