As the weather has recently improved, things are feeling a bit more upbeat on the farm. The fine conditions have helped to get the tractors back onto the fields and we are pleased to see Ed back at the wheel after a sudden illness.
Rabbit and pigeon damage to winter rape has been particularly bad so a number of field parts between Crossways farm and St.John’s have been re-drilled with spring rape. Ground is being prepared for maize and David has been changing the tyres on the ‘new’ second hand sprayer, which is no easy job.
After our Easter break we came home to a pile of post and a £25,000 electricity bill which I’m hoping is not accurate! First day back and it’s straight onto the computer working through invoices and reconciling the books before sending everything to the accountant in a couple of days. Later this week Laurence will complete the budget in readiness for next week’s quarterly meeting with James Miller of Laurence Gould Management Consultants. It’s always good to see James and to hear news from his own farm in the West Country.
During April, Donald, Sam and Amanda will all have taken some much needed time off with David still set to visit the Highlands.
