3rd December 2008

It is a time of paperwork for Laurence and I.  James Miller has been with us for another quarterly budget meeting - they seem to come round so quickly, it’s not true. This entails much preparation followed by long, varied discussions from business structure to machinery maintenance and what to grow in the coming year.

I have had a really enjoyable, yet tense week ensuring that everything went well with my Belted Galloway Beef box sales.  I spent two days at the butchers, each being followed by a Beef Box collection day at Manor Farm.  I hope everyone enjoyed the social gathering, coffee and cake on the collection days, meeting new people and maybe learning a little more about farming in Surrey. It was great for me to meet new people who live locally, who having seen my Belted Galloway advertising have now bought a box of beef –fantastic!

The leaflet I have been working on this summer was literally ready for collection on Wednesday, one of my beef collection days.  Jane Garrett, freelance journalist, who had worked on this project with me, whizzed off on Wednesday to collect the boxes of leaflets in time to include a leaflet with each beef box sold.

On the farm today, sheds are being cleaned out at Raikes, but the decision hasn’t been made yet as to which fields the muck will be spread on. This job will take three men the best of today and probably Thursday.
