We have just been through a rather stressful half an hour.  Laurence telephoned Animal Health in order to clarify the Notice sent out at the weekend. The converstation went along the lines that with two reactors on our farm we would be closed for 60 days and if we want to send cattle to an abattoir we neeed to give five days notice and fill out necessary licences.  With new calves coming onto our farm each week and groups of older animals going to abattoir on a weekly basis at the moment, this was not good news at all.

Today was set aside to weigh and sort cattle that we intend to send to the abattoir at 6am tomorrow.  We had to explain that it would be at least 3pm before we could say which animals would be going to slaughter and therefore which tag numbers Animal Health would need on their licence - IF they could get it through for us today.

Thankfully, ten minutes later Animal Health phoned back and explained that it is just the two animals which we have isolated, which are under restriction and they will come back to test them after 60 days.
