Laurence has been asked by the NFU Press Office to do a couple of interviews today in response to the Gallagher Review which examines the environmental case for biofuels.  ITN have asked for an interview as have Radio Five Live.

Laurence needs to read the review once it’s released,  but hopes to include these relevant points:

·         The crops grown for bio-fuels are not different from crops already grown in this country.

·         The crops are being grown in an environmentally sensitive manner

·         Land is not being taken out of food production to produce bio-fuels

·         Set –Aside is 0% this year.  Land which was put into Set-Aside in the past to reduce food production (not as a stewardship scheme) has now been released and could provide a few hundred thousand acres for production once more.
